Mar 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka Supreme Court today ordered the Monetary Board of the Central Bank to obtain a comprehensive list of assets of Ceylinco chief Lalith Kothalawela and the directors of the collapsed Golden Key Credit Card Company and its subsidiaries.
When the case related to the massive fraud at Golden Key Credit Card Company was taken up this morning, counsel for Lalith Kothalawela submitted a report on his assets. However, the Supreme Court rejected it saying it was not acceptable due to the values mentioned for some of the assets were unrealistic and overvalued.
The SC further warned if the company produces false figures they will be punished under the law.
According to the court order, the Monetary Board should prepare a new list of assets belonging to Lalith Kothalawela and the directors of the collapsed Golden Key Credit Card Company and its subsidiaries with the real values.
The Court repeatedly asked the Central Bank to submit a report over the steps taken by them on the investigations conducted by the Special Unit on Golden Key Credit Card Company in 2006.
