Monday, March 30, 2009, 14:20 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka today rejected some media reports that it has called for a 'humanitarian ceasefire' in order to evacuate trapped civilians.

A senior government official said that the government troops are not observing any kind of ceasefire with the Tamil Tigers.

"Unless the LTTE agrees to lay down arms or free the civilians from their custody, we will not go for any kind of ceasefire with them," the government official confirmed.

Some Indian media reports claimed that the Sri Lanka government decided to observe a humanitarian ceasefire with the LTTE.

The Sri Lankan government has repeatedly demanded the LTTE to lay down arms and surrender or release the civilians from their captivity.
