Mar 28, Colombo: The controversial garbage dumb on Bloemendhal Road, Colombo, will be converted into a public park, a media report said.
At discussions involving Environment Minister Champika Ranawaka, Urban Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardene, Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, and officials of the Western Provincial Council including Governor Alavi Moulana and Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) authorities including Commissioner Badrani Jayawardene, it was decided to implement the proposal as soon as possible.
The proposal was submitted by an environmentalist attached to the Moratuwa University. “According to the proposal bio-degradable garbage would be converted into compost while the recycling would be done by several parties. This would be carried out as a continuous process to control the size of the pile,” the media report said.
