Mar 24, Matara: The parents of the students at seven schools in Matara District today opposed the government program to vaccinate the students for tuberculosis.
The Health Ministry has scheduled to carry out its vaccination programme for tuberculosis in Matara district this morning, but it has to be cancelled due to parents' objections, the Ministry said.
Parents' opposition came due to the tragic death of a thirteen-year-old girl at the St. Thomas High school in Matara following the vaccination for Rubella last week.
One school girl was died and another thirty were admitted to the hospital in Matara last week following the rubella vaccination.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa ordered the health officials to stop the vaccination program until the investigations are completed.
Meanwhile the Health Ministry today announced that they will recommence the rubella vaccination program for school children on the recommendations of the World Health Organizations (WHO).
