Mar 22, Batticaloa: A female student at the Eastern University in Batticaloa has committed suicide this morning, the police said.

According to the police spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranjith Gunasekara the female student has set herself on fire at her hostel at Wandaramulla in Batticaloa.

The victim, identified as a 3rd year student of the Eastern University, R. Sudarshini was admitted to the hospital following the self immolation, but succumbed to her injuries.

Batticaloa Hospital confirmed that the student was a resident of the recently liberated Puthukkudyiruppu area in Mullaitivu.

This was the second female student of the Eastern University from the same area that committed suicide within a short time. Police are conducting further investigations over the death.
