Mar 19, Trincomalee: The Chief Minister of the Eastern Province Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan today said the child soldiers issue related to Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) party would be concluded in another three months.
Speaking at a special press briefing held in Trincomalee this morning Chief Minister Chandrakanthan stressed that they have already handed over the child soldiers to their parents and relatives.
However, according to the Chief Minister the UNICEF organization is still accusing the TMVP party saying that there are more child soldiers working with them. The UNICEF has recently given the Chief Minister a name list of 100 child soldiers still recruited in the party.
The Chief Minister said they have opened three offices in Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara to look for the child soldiers mentioned by the UNICEF with the cooperation of the police department.
Aside from the issue of child soldiers, Chandrakanthan stressed that the main suspect of the killing of a six-year-old girl in Trincomalee was not a member TMVP but he had worked for the TMVP in last election in Eastern Province.
