Jan 08, Colombo: Following the assassination of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickramathunga Sri Lanka opposition party has decided to brief the international community on the threats faced by the media.
Speaking at a special press briefing held in Colombo this evening opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe said that they will brief the foreign diplomats in Colombo tomorrow on this issue.
The opposition says it hopes to urge the diplomats to interfere in the matter aiming to prevent attacks on media freedom in the country.
Opposition leader charged that the government should be responsible for the assassination of Wickramathunga.
Like the LTTE, the government has also started to attack the people who hold different opinions, Wickremasinghe said. He said the opposition wants an international investigation on government behavior.
Meanwhile the opposition asked the public to join hands with them to prevent this kind of attacks which affect the public life.
