Jan 07, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) asked for a select committee to probe the failure of Central Bank of Sri Lanka to supervise the financial institutions in the country.
Demanding to appoint a select committee, the UNP Kurunegala District parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara handed over a motion to the Secretary General of Parliament this evening.
According to the main opposition, the Central Bank and its Monetary Board has failed to supervise and regulate financial institutions and act against them.
The UNP said the collapse in Golden Key Credit Card Company, belonging to the Ceylinco group was the recent example of Central Bank’s inefficiency.
