Jan 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka government and the entire opposition as well as the international community have condemned the pre-dawn attack on MTV/MBC studio complex at Depanama in Pannipitiya today.

Speaking to the media new Minister for Investment Promotions Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said the government vehemently condemns the attack and this was another step to disrepute the government.

Speaking at the Parliament this morning opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe implying the government involvement said the attack was a clear threat to the media freedom of the country.

“We are trying to stop Tiger terrorism but it was replaced with state terrorism,” he said.

Issuing a special statement this morning Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna said the media freedom should be protected in a democratic country.

The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress also condemned the attack and asked the government to arrest the suspects immediately.

Meanwhile issuing a press release, the US Embassy in Sri Lanka has also condemned the attack on MTV/MBC studio complex and called the government to hold tough investigations on the issue.

An unidentified gang early this morning attacked the MTV/MBC (Sirasa) complex, a leading TV and Radio station at Depanama in Pannipitiya, for a second time in a week and completely damaged the Main Control Room with all the computers in the complex.
