Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 14:15 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 06, Colombo: A group of Sri Lankan journalists today launched a protest campaign outside the Fort Railway Station in Colombo against the attack on MTV/MBC TV and radio station complex, better known as "Sirasa" at Pannipitiya.

Nearly 150 journalists reportedly have joined the protest organized by the Free Media Movement (FMM).

The protesters urged the government to arrest the attackers immediately and produce them in court. They said the attack was a clear threat to the media freedom in the country.

The station complex of the MTV/MBC was completely damaged due to the attack and the broadcasting transmission of its seven TV and radio channels has been halted throughout the day.

The government said that they have already commenced a special investigation on the attack.
