Monday, January 5, 2009, 16:21 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 05, Colombo: Newly appointed Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs Dr. Sarath Amunugama and Minister of Investment Promotion and Enterprise Development Anura Priyadharshana Yapa assumed their duties at the respective ministries this morning.

Following religious observances the two ministers have assumed the duties in their new posts and both ministers urged their staff to serve the public in a friendly manner.

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa made the changes in the cabinet last week to fill the Public Administration and Home Affairs minister post left vacant by the breakaway opposition legislator Karu Jayasuriya.

Previously Dr. Sarath Amunugama was the Minister of Investment Promotion and Enterprise Development while Anura Priyadharshana Yapa was the Media Minister while President Mahinda Rajapaksa took the Mass Media Ministry under his wing.

The two ministers took oaths last week before the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister post became vacant last month when the former minister Karu Jayasuriya rejoined the main Opposition United National Party to accept the newly created Deputy Leader post.
