Jan 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today directed the officials to provide all the facilities to the people who are fleeing the rebel held Mullaitivu in Northern Sri Lanka.

A statement issued by the presidential media unit said the President has ordered to immediately establish a new welfare centre at Manik Farm area in Vavuniya for the fleeing people.

According to the media unit, 750 families who had fled from Kilinochchi, Nedunkerni, Oddusudan and the suburbs during the past few months are living in the two welfare centers in the area at the moment.

The statement said the district secretaries and security forces have already commenced a special process to provide essential food items, medicine, sanitary ware, and security for the people.

The government has allocated Rs. 300 million for the North Development program this year, the statement said.
