Jan 05, Colombo: Nearly 110,000 students who passed the 2008 General Certificate Examination (Advanced Level) in Sri Lanka are to miss university education due to the limited facilities in the universities.
According to the Examination Commissioner General Anura Edirisinghe a total number of 131,000 students have been qualified for the university admissions.
However only 21,000 students are to be selected for the university education by the Z-score scheme, he added.
University Grants Commission (UGC), the governing body of the university system at present selects students for admission to undergraduate courses for 14 National universities and 4 institutes, which have been set up under the Universities Act.
A total of 225,000 students took the GCE (A/L) last year. The students from outstations have outshone their counterparts from the main cities.
