Jan 04, Colombo: Sri Lankan police have held a special census throughout the day to register the persons who have come to Colombo from the North, East and Central Provinces since January 1, 2003.
According to police spokesperson SSP Ranjith Gunasekara, this special census was held at temporary registration centres in selected places in the Western Province.
A large number of persons reportedly registered today, but the official figures are not available yet.
The Police Department organized this census as a safety measure to keep the details updated on these persons who had come to Colombo in the last five years.
A few months ago, another census was held to register those who had come to Colombo from the Northern Province.
