Jan 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Examination Department this evening announced the island first rankers in four streams of the 2008 GCE Advanced Level Exam.
This time only one student from Colombo, Kaveen Weerasinghe of Royal College, registered his name as the island first ranker in the Science stream.
Tharindu Shaleen Bandara of Bandarawela National School in the Sri Lankan upcountry became the island first in the Maths stream.
Kasun Gunawardana of Ibbagamuwa Central College has become all island first in the Commerce stream, while Jeinulabdeen Fathima of Muslim Girls’ School at Kinniya in Trincomalee, a rural city without any facilities in Sri Lanka's east, has become the island first in the Arts Stream.
Meanwhile, many students who sat for the exam have charged that the results could be wrong due to a teachers’ boycott of the paper grading.
