Sunday, January 4, 2009, 14:24 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 04, Colombo: Following a successful first visit this year, Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed left Sri Lanka this evening.

Sources at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake confirmed that the Maldivian president left the country around 5.50 PM on a special Maldivian aircraft.

During his two-day visit, President Mohamed Nasheed had talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa, Premier Ratnasiri Wickramanayake, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, and Cultural Affairs Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

In these discussions, he assured his government's full support to Sri Lanka to eradicate terrorism from the country.

Mohamed Nasheed, also known as Anni, was selected as the Maldivian president last November, defeating Asia’s longest ruling president, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, in the presidential election.
