Jan 04, Colombo: The Sri Lanka government will introduce new safety features for the Sri Lankan passport to help prevent smuggling into the country.
T.B. Abeykoon, Controller for the Department of Immigration and Emigration, said they hope to add the holder’s fingerprint and a photo printed with new techniques to the passport.
The Department wants to introduce these safety measures within the first few months of this year.
As a result of the fewer safety features on the current passports, people try to quickly alter passports for illegal migrants, the Controller added.
