Jan 03, Nuwara Eliya: People in Sri Lanka's upcountry today staged a protest campaign against the political violence ahead of the provincial councils election in the North Western and Central provinces.
Up-Country People's Front (UPF), one of the coalition parties in Sri Lanka's ruling People’s Alliance led the protest campaign that was held at Udapussallawa town in Ginigathhena this afternoon.
The main goal of the protest was to oppose the recent attack by the Ceylon Workers’ Congress Chairman, Minister Arumugam Thondaman targeting the UPF candidate from Ginigathhena.
According to the sources the Nuwara Eliya- Ginigathhena main road also had to be closed due to the protest.
The people urged the government to intervene to stop the political violence in the central hills before publicity campaigns can commence.
