Jan 03, Colombo: At least three people were injured in an explosion near the Red Mosque at Bangasala Street in Pettah, a busy commercial area of Sri Lankan capital this evening.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said that the explosion was triggered under a parked vehicle at about 4:50 p. m.
According to the Military spokesman this was a modified bomb and security forces are still investigating the bomb.
Three people including a 16 year old teen have sustained injuries in the explosion and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. Two more vehicles were also damaged, police said.
Dr. Hector Weerasingha, Director of the National hospital said that the injuries are not life threatening.
The blast comes a day after a suspected LTTE suicide bomber blew herself up near the Air Force Headquarters killing two and injuring 37 people.
