* Sri Lanka air strikes on LTTE targets

Jan 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka Air Force Kfir fighter jets attacked and destroyed two bulldozers being used in building a bund in Piramantanlkulam area of Mullaitivu this afternoon around 2:00 p.m., the military said.

In another attack around 4:00 p.m. Mig 27 fighter jets pounded terrorist reinforcement moving towards Chunnikulam South while MI 24 Helicopter gunships targeted another rebel reinforcement moving eastwards towards the Visuamadu Tank around 5:20 p.m.

All hits were successful, Air Force sources said.

Meanwhile troops continuing search operations in Chundikulam, Visuamadu, Udayarkattukulam and Puthukkudyiruppu areas yesterday recovered a haul of weapons and a dead body of an LTTE cadre.

The arms cache included three T-56 weapons, one magazine with thirty rounds of ammunition, three claymore mines of 12.5 kg, one claymore mine of 20 kg, one I-com radio set, ten rifle grenades, fifty-five hand grenades, one LTTE identity card, seven fishing boats, one water jet, ten 210-litre barrels of kerosene, 10,000 candles and one container of urea.

Troops are consolidating positions and clearing the recently captured areas while the government has allowed a 48-hour period from yesterday for the civilians to move into safer areas.
