Jan 31, Kandy: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today attended several engagements in the hill country capital of Kandy.

Main opposition United National Party (UNP) Provincial Council member from Gampaha District, Jayanthi Jayakodiarachchi along with 35 other UNP members met the President at the President House yesterday.

President Rajapaksa also addressed the teachers and students of external degree programs in Central Province. Sisira Wickremasinghe of the BIA Institute handed over a cheque to the President as donation for the Apiwenuwen Api Fund. Ministers Maithripala Sirisena, and Bandula Gunawardena were also present.

V. Karthigeyan was appointed as the Tamil SLFP party organizer in the district. He is the son of former Kandy District SLFP organizer late Mr. Govinda Raja.

The President appointed Gamini Vijayabandara as the District Organizer of Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP) for Kandy at the President's House.
