* Sri Lankan police officers seek High Court's assistance for promotions

Jan 30, Colombo: A group of a police officers today lodged a petition at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka demanding to suspend the appointments of newly recruited Assistant Superintendents of Police.

They have named the Defence Secretary, Inspector General of Police and National Police Commission as the respondent of this petition.

In their petition the police officers pointed out that the Police Commission has recruited 89 ASPs against the cabinet approved recruiting scheme.

According to this petition more irregularities have been reported at the interviews held to recruit these 89 ASP officers. They urged the Supreme Court to suspend the ASP appointments and to grant the slots for qualified Chief Inspectors of the police.
