* Rs. 3.2 billion grant to Sri Lanka for demining in Mannar

Jan 29, Colombo: The United States and Japan have offered a Rs. 3.2 billion grant to Sri Lanka government for demining in the Mannar District, one of the recently liberated districts in the North.

The Ministry for Nation Building said the government is planning to begin the demining process by in early next month.

Silawathura, Giant Tank also known as Yodha Tank and Madhu areas are to be demined demining under this project, the Ministry added.

The government hopes to obtain the assistance of foreign demining groups and the Sri Lanka army to complete the demining in Mannar district.
