Jan 25, Kandy: A special religious ceremony has been organized in Kandy today to mark the 11th anniversary of the LTTE suicide bomb attack on the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, Sri Lanka, the temple which houses the Sacred Tooth Relic.

A group of Sinhala expatriates in the country with the assistance of the officials of Temple and Buddhist monks have organized the religious event.

The Temple of the Tooth Relic, a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site in the hill country of Kandy came under an LTTE suicide bomb attack in the early hours of January 25th, 1998 as a suicide bomber drove a massive explosive laden truck into the Temple killing at least 17 people including 2-year old infant.

Immediately following the attack the Sri Lankan government banned the LTTE.
