* Sri Lanka to set up a task force to help street children

Jan 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) will hold a special function today at the BMICH to commemorate The National Day against Cruelty to Children and the 10th anniversary of the NCPA.

Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka will be the chief guest of the event and some cabinet ministers are also scheduled to attend.

The main event of this function is awarding of “Jathika Lama Surakum Kruthyabimani Sammanaya” to some distinguished personalities who have done great work for children of Sri Lanka, NCPA announced.

Meanwhile NCPA Chairman Jagath Wellawatta said NCPA has set up a task force to help street children in the country.

The task force intends to educate street children and provide them housing facilities whenever possible, he added.
