Jan 01, Colombo: Over 200 people in Sri Lanka have been admitted to the hospital due to injuries last night as they celebrated the dawn of the New Year.

Dr. Anil Jayasinghe, Director of the Accident Unit in Colombo National Hospital said most number of injuries reported were from road accidents.

More than 130 people have suffered injuries due to road accidents while the rest were due to fights and fire works, he said.

However the total number of injured was less than last year, hospital statistics revealed.
