* Fire engulfs Sri Lanka IDP camp in Vavuniya

Feb 28, Vavuniya: Nearly 48 displaced families living in a welfare center in Vavuniya faced further problems as a sudden fire engulfed their camp this afternoon.

Minister for Disaster Relief Services Rishard Badurdeen confirmed that a sudden fire has burned down one of the welfare camps at Punthottam in Vavuniya today.

According to the Vavuniya police 7 tents have been completely destroyed by the fire, but no injuries were reported.

The Disaster Relief Services Ministry has taken measures to relocate the afflicted people to another welfare camp, the Minister said.

Vavuniya police is conducting further investigations into the cause of the fire.
