* Sharp increase in violation of election laws in Sri Lanka, police say

Feb 28 Colombo: Following the announcement of election date for Western Provincial Council the Police department had taken measures to remove the cut-outs and banners related to the poll campaign.

Deputy Inspector General of Police for Election activities Gamini Nawarathna said there is a sharp increase in violations of election laws.

The police department had decided to brief the candidates on this issue to avoid further violations of election laws.

DIG Nawarathna said that they hope to use outside labourers to remove election related posters in the Western Province.
