* All weekend examinations at Kelaniya University in Sri Lanka cancelled

Feb 27, Kelaniya: Following the suspension of academic activities of Kelaniya University from last Wednesday the University administration has decided to temporarily suspend all examinations and courses conducted during the weekend at the University.

Issuing a special statement this afternoon media director of the Kelaniya University, Dr. Mapa Thilakaratne announced the examinations scheduled to be held Saturday (28) were postponed.

All faculties at the university except the Medical Faculty were closed on last Wednesday following a clash between two student groups at the university premises.

During the clash few students in Arts and Science Faculties were injured and admitted to the hospital. This was the second time in a month the students in these two faculties clashed.

At both incidents the police used tear gas to disperse the students involved in the clashes.

Deputy Inspector General of Police in the area K.P.P Pathirana said a special investigation is already underway to probe the situation under the supervision of Kelaniya police station.
