Thursday, February 26, 2009, 14:20 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka government has decided to grant approval to employees to obtain 30% of their Employee's Provident Fund (EPF) as a loan in case of urgent cash necessity.

Labour Minister Athauda Senaviratne said this new concession will be available for the employees from April.

The government earlier planned to grant this facility with effect from January this year, but ran into some policy problems, the Minister added.

Minister hopes to pass the new bill related to this issue at the parliament in near future.
