WPC polls in Sri Lanka on April 25th

Feb 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake today decided to hold the Western Provincial Council poll on April 25th.
Following the conclusion of accepting nominations for the election this afternoon Deputy Elections Commissioner W.P. Sumanasiri of the Elections Secretariat confirmed the polls date.
Accepting of nominations for the WPC poll commenced last Thursday and concluded at 12:00 noon today.
Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party handed over the nomination lists today for all three districts Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara in the Province while the ruling party United People's Freedom Alliance submitted their nominations lists yesterday
Former Chief Minister of the Western Provincial Council Reginald Coorey will lead Kalutara District campaign of UPFA while Sunil Jayamini will lead Colombo District and Prasanna Ranatunga was appointed for Gampaha District.
The government dissolved Western PC before its term expires in August. Over 3.8 million are eligible to vote in 36 polling divisions.
