* First day of postal voting in Sri Lanka PC polls ends smoothly

Feb 02, Colombo: The first day of the postal voting for the upcoming North Western and Central provincial council election ended this evening without any incident or violation, Election Secretariat reported.

Reports from the five districts, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala and Puttalama where the election is to be held said that nearly 65% of government workers from the total applied have casted their postal votes during the day.

"There were no such incidents reported related to election violations," all the five Assistant Retaining Officers confirmed.

Casting of the postal votes for the upcoming provincial council election commenced this morning island wide. The voting will conclude tomorrow.

According to the Election Secretariat nearly 85,000 government workers have applied to cast postal votes with the highest number reporting from Kurunegala district.
