Feb 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party (UNP) urged the Election Commissioner to immediately close the Presidential offices currently opened for the upcoming provincial council election in North Western and Central provinces.
Sending a special letter to the Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake, the General Secretary of UNP Tissa Attanayake has requested the closure of the offices saying that the offices are violations of election law.
According to the letter there are few presidential offices currently established in North Western and Central provinces aiming to seek public support for the upcoming election.
MP Attanayake claims that the President has spent public money to hold parties and feed their party supporters at these offices.
The main opposition insisted that the activities like these are violating election laws and asked the Election Commissioner to take measures.
