Feb 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka government has commenced the demining process in some areas of the recently liberated Mullaitivu district, the military said.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said that the army has started the demining in Mullaitivu to create a suitable background for the security forces to use the main routes of the district for travel.
According to the military spokesman the demining process is currently underway only on the main routes in the Mullaitivu city and its suburbs.
The government is planning to demine the other areas in the district following the completion of military offensives to liberate the entire Mullaitivu District.
