* People of Sri Lanka's Jaffna peninsula stage massive protest against LTTE

Feb 01, Jaffna: For the second time in recent past the people of Jaffna peninsula staged a massive protest campaign today against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

According to the sources in Jaffna nearly 3,000 civilians took part in the protest campaign organized by the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) led by Minister Douglas Dewananda.

The main goal of the protest was to pressure the LTTE to release all Wanni civilians who are forcibly detained by the Tigers as human shields.

Reportedly the protesters have organized a walking parade too in the Jaffna city.

During the massive protest campaign police and army tightened the security in the Jaffna town and its suburbs.

This was the second protest campaign the people of Jaffna organized in recent past.
