Feb 11, Colombo: Applications for the postal voting for the upcoming Western Provincial Council election are to be accepted till March 15, the Elections Secretariat announced.

Elections Secretariat said the government servants scheduled for election duty for the WPC, members of the armed forces and Police could apply for postal vote applications under the 2007 electoral register.

The 2007 electoral registers are currently being exhibited at the Colombo Elections Secretariat, District Secretariats, Divisional Secretariats, Army and Police headquarters.

Nominations for the Western provincial council election will be accepted from February 19 to 26.

The election date is to be announced by the Election Commissioner following the completion of the nomination period.

Sri Lanka government dissolved the Western Provincial Council before the end of its normal scheduled term that was to be expired in August. The government hopes to hold the election for Western PC before the Sinhala and Hindu New Year in April.
