Apr 05, Colombo: People in the Peliyagoda area are protesting against the Colombo Municipal Council dumping the city's garbage in a site in the area.
Following Sri Lanka Supreme Court's decision, the CMC started to dump garbage in the new five acre site at Peliyagoda.
The CMC temporarily stopped collecting garbage in the city following the Supreme Court order directing the authorities not to dump garbage at the Bloemendhal Road waste site.
The people in Peliyagoda say that they would face a serious health hazard because of the huge amount of garbage that would be dumped in their backyard.
They charged that the proposed site is a populated area and also the dump site is only a few hundred meters away from the proposed multi-million rupee fish market.
