* Sri Lanka Navy assists ICRC to ferry more sick and wounded civilians

Apr 30, Colombo: The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy ferried another batch of sick and wounded civilians yesterday by the sea route.

ICRC evacuated the 27th batch of 499 civilians on April 28th and the 28th batch of 521 patients and civilians yesterday on board the ICRC flagged vessel MV Green Ocean to Pulmoddai. The two evacuations brought 293 men, 368 women, and 359 children to Pulmoddai. Among them 185 men, 162 women patients needed medical treatment.

The Naval doctors provided emergency medical treatment to the patients upon disembarkation at Pulmoddai and rushed them to the Field hospital in Pulmoddai and the General hospital in Padawiya.

The ICRC had already ferried over 10,000 sick and wounded patients to Pulmoddai mobile hospital and Trincomalee hospital during the last few months. ICRC expects to continue the humanitarian effort until all the sick and wounded are evacuated to the government controlled areas.
