Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 16:21 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy foiled another LTTE attempt to launch a pre-dawn attack on the ground troops from the sea destroying 4 LTTE suicide boats and sinking another one in the seas off Mullaitivu today, the military said.

Defence sources said the Tigers launched the initial attack with 2 boats targeting ground troops one of which was sunk by navy gunfire from its fast attack crafts (FACs).

Four more suicide vessels later joined the battle that lasted nearly two hours and the Naval troops have destroyed all four boats, the Navy said.

Sri Lanka Navy on Sunday (April 26) foiled an attempt by the LTTE Sea Tigers to attack the ground troops in the northern part of the no-fire zone from the sea.

Meanwhile troops of Army's 58 Division advancing southwards in the no-fire zone (NFZ) this morning captured another earth bund that was under construction following hours of intense close-quarter fighting with the LTTE, the military said.

Troops have uncovered a bulldozer and some other construction equipment during a subsequent search operation, the military said.
