* LTTE ceasefire was a complete bluff, says Sri Lanka government
Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 14:45 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka government today said that the ceasefire called by the Tamil Tiger rebels was a complete bluff as they have carried out several attacks on security forces after declaring their unilateral ceasefire.

Speaking at the weekly press briefing government defence spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the LTTE has already carried out 7 suicide attacks after declaring their unilateral ceasefire.

"It was only three days time after declaring their unilateral ceasefire, but seven suicide attacks within this period means there is no ceasefire," the Minister stressed.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said several soldiers were killed and few more were injured by the LTTE suicide attacks four of which are human suicide attacks, two suicide motorcycles, and one a suicide cab.

Rambukwella said that LTTE has now been restricted to an area of five square kilometers and it would diminish day by day as the government forces advance even without using heavy weapons.

According to the Minister there is no necessity for the troops to use heavy weapons at this final stage of the war. "The ground realities do not permit the use of heavy weapons," he said.

Minister Rambukwella predicted that the ongoing war in No Fire Zone would finish in the coming weeks soon after the remaining rebel leaders are arrested.
