Apr 28, Colombo: Foreign Minister of France Dr. Bernard Kouchner and the UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband will continue their visit to Sri Lanka tomorrow without their Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt.
Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt told media that he was denied a visa to enter to the country and told to visit at another time.
However, the Foreign Ministry says Bildt was never refused a visa and Minister Bogollagama had invited the Swedish official to come at "a mutually convenient time" next month.
However the Foreign Secretary of Britain David Miliband and his French counterpart, Bernard Kouchner are due to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow as planned to address the humanitarian situation in northern Sri Lanka.
The Foreign Ministry said Kouchner and Miliband will meet Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama Wednesday at 9.30 a.m. at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sri Lanka government is being pressed by the Western governments and India for a ceasefire with the LTTE rebels to allow the civilians trapped in the no-fire zone can be removed safely.
The government has rejected the calls for ceasefires saying that the rebels have used ceasefires to re-arm and regroup in the past. A recent halt in military operations for two days did not produce the desired result of civilian escape, the government points out.
