September 06, Colombo: The former part of the week demonstrated weakening sentiments. This was due to losses in key share prices like Dialog Telekom PLC (DIAL), Bukit Darah Company PLC (BUKI), Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLT) and John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH).
However, the Colombo bourse shifted into a much welcomed positive gear on Thursday and ended on mixed sentiments on Friday with the ASPI gaining and MPI losing marginal grounds. On overall terms, All Share Price Index (ASPI) shed off 10.34 points (0.43%) to close at 2398.30 while the more liquid Milanka Price Index (MPI) shrunk by a sensitive 27.82 points (1.00%) to settle at 2761.16 by the end of the week.
Investor interest especially fell on Colombo Dockyard PLC (DOCK), Chemical Industries (Colombo) PLC (CIC), Bogala Graphite Lanka PLC (BOGA), Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC (LLUB) and Lanka IOC PLC (LIOC) counters on various days of the week. In addition, SLTL experienced a large scale foreign trade on Tuesday with the bulk of 875,000 shares having changed hands at Rs.46.00. In addition, SLT also recorded a crossing on the same day with 690,000 shares having changed hands at Rs.46.00. The share was seen fluctuating between a price range of Rs.45.00 and Rs.47.00 during the week.
