* Heavy rains continue in Sri Lanka

Sept 06, Colombo: As Sri Lanka would continue to experience the present rainy weather, the highest rainfall has been reported from Bandarawela today, the Meteorological Department said.

Accordingly, 48.5mm rainfall has been reported from Bandarawela during the last 24-hour period. The Department said that the present rainy weather is due to the onset of the inter monsoon period.

It also warned that there will be showers at several places in the Western Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

“Winds will be 20-3- kmph and in south -westerly direction. The speed may increase up to 40 kmph in the south-eastern and Gulf of Mannar sea areas,” it added.
