Sept 06, Colombo: Water resources management and development in Sri Lanka is reported to have received top priority in the recently drafted Assistance Strategy of the World Bank (WB).
WB Country Director in Sri Lanka, Ms. Naoko Ishii recently addressing the inauguration of the water supply scheme implemented under the 2nd community water supply and sanitation project at Wegala in the Central Province stated that new Assistance Strategy is prepared in close consultation with the Government and the people to help develop the country and reduce poverty.
“I would also like to tell you here that the World Bank has just formulated new Assistance Strategy for Sri Lanka in close consultation with the Government and the people. This Assistance Strategy holds high in its agenda water resources management and development as they are central to sustainable growth and poverty reduction, especially in the regions lagging behind on development,” she said.
