Sept 30, Colombo: Sailors of Sri Lanka Navy's elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) unit attacked and destroyed two LTTE assault boats in the sea off Pooneryn last night (29) Naval sources said.

According to the sources, SBS boats patrolling in the area upon detection of two suspicious boats moving towards the coast from Pooneryn to Kalmunai point (K-point) around 11 p.m. have launched a surprise attack on the boats.

Naval sources confirmed that both the boats were destroyed in the attack. Sources say there were at least 8 Tiger cadres on board the boats and all are presumed killed. A search operation has been launched in the area.
