September 30, Colombo: It was the curtain fall of another negative grounded day with both indices been dragged down by heavy weight shares like Dialog Telekom PLC (DIAL), Hayleys PLC (HAYL), Aitken Spence PLC (SPEN). All Share Price Index (ASPI) crouched by a significant 43.27 points (1.98%) to close at 2142.26 while liquid MIlanka Price Index (MPI) shed off a sensitive 55.43 points (2.26%) to end the day at 2397.19.
A turnover of Rs.121.61Mn was registered today. Primal Glass Ceylon PLC (GLAS) was the most heavily traded counter in terms of volume with 1.50Mn shares. The counter signed off at Rs.2.10. Meanwhile, the highest contribution to turnover was made by Associated Motorways PLC (AMW) with a value of Rs.12.76Mn. The stock saw the end of the day at Rs.174.50.
Next in line volume wise were Nawaloka Hospitals PLC (NHL), Valibel Power Erathna PLC (VPEL) and DIAL with 1.44Mn, 0.94Mn and 0.56Mn shares respectively. Noteworthy contributions to the days’ turnover were also made by Lanka IOC PLC (LIOC), Riverina Hotels Ltd. (BHR) and John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) with values of Rs.10.63Mn, Rs.9.87Mn and Rs.5.59Mn respectively. Price losers considerably outdid the price gainers by a massive 131 to a mere 12. Foreign focus remained fixed on the purchasing side resulting in a thickened net inflow of Rs.23.83Mn.
