* Two Tamil Tigers killed in failed infiltration bid in Eastern Sri Lanka
Monday, September 29, 2008, 5:05 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police Special Task Force (STF) commandos foiled an infiltration attempt by a group of Tamil Tigers killing two of the cadres in Ampara district of Eastern Sri Lanka this morning, the military said.

According to the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) a STF patrol has observed a suspicious movement of a boat in the Kodamadhu lagoon around 5:00 a.m. and has confronted the occupants who have opened fire at the commandos.

STF troops have retaliated and destroyed the boat, the MCNS said. In a search operation afterwards troops found two bodies of slain LTTE cadres, along with their weapons including a T-56 gun.

Tigers are known to infiltrate the coastal jungles in the East from the sea. A soldier was killed in a shootout between the soldiers and fleeing Tigers on Friday (27) in the Yala National Park.

Police are conducting further investigations.
