Sept 29, Colombo: The death toll of the Weliweriya alcohol poisoning incident has risen to 18, Gampaha Hospital sources said.

Gampaha Hospital Director Dr. Dhammika Mayadunne said three patients who were in critical condition in the hospital have died this morning.

Another 73 patients are still receiving treatment in the hospital and few of them are still in danger, the Director added.

According to the sources this particular brew had a high concentration of methyl alcohol.
