* Three Parliamentary Committees appointed in Sri Lanka
Friday, September 26, 2008, 17:51 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 26, Colombo: Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara today appointed three committees to look into the charges against the controversial MIG deal, government’s alleged secret pact with the LTTE and the charges against the Inland Revenue Department.

Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has been named the chairman of the committee to probe alleged secret deals with the LTTE. The naming of Minster Silva caused uproar of opposition from UNP ranks.

Opposition Chief Whip Joseph Michael Perera vehemently opposed the appointment of Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. However the Speaker pointed out that the position had to be given to the most senior person in the committee. UNP MP Kabir Hasheem is to head the committee to probe charges against Inland Revenue Department.
