* Sri Lanka National Blood Transfusion Service Director interdicted
Tuesday, September 2, 2008, 5:49 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 02, Colombo: According to media reports, National Blood Transfusion Service Director, Dr. Mangalika Bindusara has been interdicted yesterday along with Dr. K.M.I.L.A. Nazeer for allegedly using expired Apheresis kits on blood donors and patients.

These changes were prompted when it came to light that several Apheresis kits that had exceeded the expiry date were used by the hospital in blood transfusion processes.

Apheresis kits are used along with hi-tech machines to harvest only platelets, as opposed to ‘whole blood’ donation from donors.
